A Ghost

This is a tale of how mysterious forces can change the lives of those who consult with the dead. The story of Julieanne McCambridge, whose life is overshadowed by her death, is a well known tale, but her fate did not end in the cold waters of the Solway. Through a book that was once owned by that unfortunate girl, a young lady of this age seeks to reap the benefits that her predecessor was denied. The music, though modern, has been composed with a gothic flourish, so as to accentuate the extremities of the tale. It is to be observed that the ghost scene in the following melodrama is one of great despair and sadness. It is advised that ladies and gentlemen of a sensitive nature might exercise a fair degree of caution when witnessing such a spectacle upon our stage. The management of His Majesty’s Theatre Royal cannot be held responsible for any persons who suffer delusions, fainting fits or apoplexy caused by the stage effects or by the unsurpassed acting of Miss Hero Jordan, daughter of the celebrated Mrs J______ who graced our stage many years ago. We hope such terrors will not interfere with your enjoyment of this evening’s performance.
