Policy Forum - Thursday 14 December

As previously notified, the next meeting of the Forum for Heads of Policy in local authorities will be held in Room 8.1 on Thursday. Because of transport difficulties, the programme has been squeezed to run between 11.00 am and about 3.00 pm and will focus on just two main issues - strategies and partnerships in the morning; and the LGA's futureswork in the afternoon.

Mike Reardon of the DETR modernisation team will give a presentation on community strategies to start off the Forum. Steve Milton of Salisbury district council will give this a local perspective with a talk about the South Wiltshire Alliance. A working lunch will follow with the 40 or so council policy officers in small groups considering the scenario in a number of key service areas in ten years time - educaiton, social services, public protection, environment/ development, and housing.

All LGA policy officers are invited to attend if they wish. Advance notice would be helpful, so speak to Carol Clinton (ext 3231) (Carol Clinton)

LGA Christmas Party

Click To Download Don't forget that it's the LGA Christmas Party this Friday (15th)

'You'll always find me in the kitchen at parties' may have been the case for Jonah Louie (when he wasn't busy trying to stop the cavalry), but we hope to see you all in the Bevin Hall from 6pm.

A great chance to reminisce about some of those landmark events which made the 60s, 70s and 80s so memorable:
  • The building of the Bull Ring shopping centre
  • The launch of the Austin Allegro
  • Howard's Way

And, as those great popsters Shalamar once observed, 'We're gonna make it a night to remember'.  (Ian Moore)
